Voodoo – Eros by Felix Bryk

$45.00

This book covers African aboriginal culture, manly the Nandi tribe, from the perspective of a German who is clearly a product of the times in terms of stereotypes. The book touches on clothing, ornament, hair-dress, skin decoration, hygiene, social differentiation of the sexes, relation of the sexes to each other, circumcision, courtship, deflowering and coitus, menstruation, pregnancy, care of children, widowhood and prostitution, married life, infidelity of the husband and jealousy, feminine love, masculine potency, onanism, and pederasty, sodomy, venereal disease and white-black relations. While no doubt shocking in 1933, today the book is of interest mainly because of the insights it gives into the colonial mentality.
