Three Lives by Gertrude Stein
Regarded by some critics as a minor masterpiece, Three Lives was Stein’s first published book. In it, she tells the stories of three working-class women — Anna, a conscientious but rigid serving woman; Melanctha, a worldly-wise and sensitive black girl; and Lena, a gentle but feeble-minded maid.
A hardcover edition with green cloth boards black lettering and a clipped dust jacket. There are tears to the dust jacket and a section along the spine that is missing, the edges are rubbed worn and faded. There is tape repair to the dust cover. The cloth cover has some foxing and rubbing along the edges. There is toning and foxing throughout the book but the text is legible.
