A first edition, first printing by Jonathan Cape Ltd in 1974. A near-fine copy with slight bumping to the head of the spine. Clean internally. In a very good, clipped wrapper with some chipping to the spine points and rubbing to the corners and edges. One tiny tear to the top and bottom of the front cover . Some spotting on the pages. Described as more complex than Gordimer’s earlier novels, The Conservationist was the joint winner of the Booker Prize in 1974. The book is set in Gordimer’s native South Africa under the apartheid regime.
