The absorbing account of the life of the champion racehorse Brigadier Gerard, in detailing the journey toward breeding this great horse, his ancestry and the careers of those horses, Hislop has written a one-stop-shop to introduce the non-racing reader to the racing world. Within a single book I learnt all that was needed to understand breeding, pedigrees, the Pattern programme of top races and the star figures of the past. The bond between Brigadier Gerard and jockey Joe Mercer comes across strongly and this is a book to appeal to any animal lover.
