In 1985 at Tolarno Galleries, Melbourne, Albert Tucker held a major exhibition of nearly sixty portraits entitled ‘Faces I Have Met’. In this series he paid tribute to the generation of the 1940s, to the principal figures who participated in a significant period of Australia’s cultural history. These portraits are now collected with others in this book.
