Brett Whiteley died in 1992 at the age of fifty-three, ending one of the most prodigious careers in the history of Australian art. This book, published to coincide with an exhibition at The Art Gallery of New South Wales – the first major retrospective of the artist’s work – presents an illuminating evaluation of Whiteley’s achievement. A first edition, hardcover, with unclipped dust jacket, maroon cloth and gilt lettering. There is some water damage to the top of the pages and foxing and toning throughout the book, but the text and colour plates are clear and legible. The front page has been folded and has caused some marks. No pages are stuck together from the water damage.
