This is one of three annuals published by Thomas Nelson and Sons for children of different ages. The Jolly Book was for oldest age group: it was said by Nelson’s that it was dear to the heart of Boys and Girls from nine to twelve yearsThe Nursery Book was for the youngest children while The Chummy Book was advertised for children who can just read, so from 4 to 8 years old.

The Jolly Book contained a selection of stories or extracts from stories already published by Thomas Nelson.

Description

A hardcover edition with illustrated boards, pictoral spine and numerous black and white sketches and colour illustrations. The front edges of the book are delaminated and there is rubbing to the edges of the book. There is foxing and toning throughout but the text and illustrations are clear, bright and legible. Page 87 has a red ink drawing. There is a red ink inscription on the inside front board and an ink dedication on the inside front page.

It’s a good reading copy – due to its age.
