A  red hardcover edition with a gilt picture of a drummer boy on the front board and gilt lettering to the spine. There is fading and some staining to the front and back boards and the spine and edges are rubbed. There is foxing and toning throughout the book but the text, black and white and colour illustrations are clear.

There are pen inscriptions on various pages in the book.
